Two rack-and-pinion railways, a boat trip and a walk or drive by the post-office bus. Add to that the flair of Rorschach’s harbour, historical inspiration found in the Henry-Dunant-Museum and a magnificent panoramic view of Lake Constance from the sun terrace. All this can be experienced on this Adventure Tour.
Starting at the station at Rorschach’s harbour, the road takes you 400 metres upwards into the Appenzell countryside to the Biedermeier village of Heiden. A fire destroyed the entire village in 1838, but it was rebuilt in its entirety. Henry Dunant, who founded the Red Cross, lived here for twenty years. This interesting museum preserves his memory. Try walking the Witzweg, a themed path from Heiden to Walzenhausen, which gives you wonderful views over Lake Constance along the way. The path is level, well established, shady and easy to walk. If you prefer, though, you can also take the post-office bus. A rack-and-pinion railway takes you back down to water level, to Rheineck. This is where you aboard a small boat which takes you back to Rorschach via the Old Rhine and part of Lake Constance.
This adventure tour is a great day trip. It can also be done in the reverse order to the description here. Combi-tickets are available at approx. SFR 28/EUR 23 (adult fare) from train stations.
